What makes a good synthesis? (Take II)

Reviewing the drafts on the student blogs, develop criteria for evaluating a good synthesis. Here are some possible templates for evaluative criteria:

"The purpose or aim of a good synthesis is ___________________."
"The writer's synthesis statement makes a __________ and __________ claim about the relationship among the sources."
"The writer develops the synthesis statement with ______________________."
"A good synthesis is organized according to _________________________."
"The writer's point of view in a good synthesis is _____________________, but not ______________."

These are just guidelines. Feel free to create your own criteria.

"The purpose or aim of a good synthesis is to combine both articles and make it seem that they were truely one article."
"The writer's synthesis statement makes a good statement by bringing in the whole topic of the article into one sentence and makes a claim about the relationship among the sources."
"The writer develops the synthesis statement with interesting facts."
"A good synthesis is organized according to what the author says, while using the opposing point in it as well."
"The writer's point of view in a good synthesis is to draw in all people with all types of viewpoints, but not who agrees with the writer."

Criteria for What Makes a Good Synthesis:
The purpose or aim of an effective synthesis is to include all main points and tie them together in a sophisticated way.
The writer's synthesis statement makes a comparative and contrasting claim about the relationship among the sources.
The writer develops the synthesis statement with support through direct quotes from both sources.
A good synthesis is organized according to subject order to eliminate confusion and allow comparisons to be made easily.
The writer's point of view in a good synthesis is clear, understandable, and creates an argument, but is not only one-sided.

~The purpose or aim of a good synthesis is to take two or more pieces and make a connection between them in order to make your own point.

~A good synthesis is organized according to subject not authors; instead you should incorporate all the authors within each paragraph or subject.

~The writer's point of view in a good synthesis should be apparent but does not dominate the whole piece—the “they say” is more important

The purpose or aim of a good synthesis is to show 2 arguments on the same topic and somehow link them together.

The writer develops the synthesis statement with examples and quotes that support the arguments.

The conclusion should sum up the arguments of the articles instead of stating the writers opinion.

A good synthesis is organized according to the source's arguments, not the writer's.

"The purpose or aim of a good synthesis is to effectively present both sides of an issue and voice the author's opinion."

"The writer's synthesis statement makes a good and clear claim about the relationship among the sources."

"The writer develops the synthesis statement with the help pf both writer's issues'."
"A good synthesis is organized according to the original writer's statements."

"The writer's point of view in a good synthesis is well voiced, but not over powering."

Over all I would say, make sure you effectively write what the authors have to say and make it evident who says what. Be sure to include your opinion along with different points of views your audience might have. And make it sound and flow nicely!

 "The purpose or aim of a good synthesis is to take two or more pieces, similar in content and intertwine them to express a point."

"The writer's synthesis statement makes a compare and contrast claim about the relationship among the sources."

"The writer develops the synthesis statement with the combining the main point of both articles into one objective."

"A good synthesis is organized according to the objectives of the authors, and should evenly display the views of the articles."

"The writer's point of view in a good synthesis is portrayed through the angle of the paper, but not spelled out for readers."
